Fairbanks, Ph.D. (1897-1987) was America's distinguished Sculptor, Anatomist, and Educator of the 20th Century. In his career he created over 100 public monuments to great characters and events in history (four are found in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.).

Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. - Read the story behind the famous actor. He isn't really a Fairbanks, either! In a nutshell, his mother Ella's first husband was a John Fairbanks who died leaving her a widow with one son. She married a second time, got divorced, then married a third time to H. Charles Ulman, and had two more sons, one of whom was Douglas. Charles proved to be a scoundrel who abandoned this family (he had previously abandoned his first family!) when Douglas was only five years old. Infuriated with Charles, Ella had the names of her two sons changed to Fairbanks, wishing to associate them with the prestigious Fairbanks name, the same as her oldest son.

Winter Quarters Project - BYU - The Winter Quarters Project is based at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. This is an ongoing effort to gather information about members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who lived in the Winter Quarters area between the years of 1846 and 1853. They are also researching the settlements created by the pioneers and the causes of death among the Saints at that time. Because this project is continually expanding, they welcome input and the contribution of information by the public. Several of our Fairbanks relatives are listed on this site.
